Is there Power in Being
Alone?
We live in a world of commotion.
There are a countless number of distractions around us each day. Is solitude something of the past and do you
welcome opportunities to be alone?
Most people find it challenging to
separate themselves from the commotion in our world. Our schools and companies
encourage us to work as teams and in groups. Does collaboration bring out the
best in our schools, corporations and in each of us?
In an article by Susan Cain and in her recently released
book, “Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking” she writes that research strongly suggests
that people are more creative when they enjoy privacy and freedom from
interruption. And the most spectacularly creative people in many fields are
often introverted, according to studies by psychologists Mihaly
Csikszentmihalyi and Gregory Feist. They’re extroverted enough to exchange and
advance ideas, but they see themselves as independent and individualistic.
They’re not joiners by nature.
The ability to be alone reflects
independence and self-sufficiency. Take time to be alone. You may find it
empowering!
Are you willing to
schedule time with yourself?
